The short version

We test what we publish and the tools work, but they are free tools running on hardware we know nothing about. Check the output before you rely on it, and keep your originals. Nothing here is legal advice.

General information only

Everything on ImgCruncher is published for general information. We make a genuine effort to be accurate, and our guides are based on tests we actually ran rather than on claims we repeated. Even so, information can go out of date, a platform can change its requirements the week after we publish, and your situation may differ from the one we tested. Use your own judgement.

The tools, and what we do not guarantee

The tools run entirely in your browser, which is the reason they are private and also the reason results vary. Your browser version, your operating system, your available memory and the specific file you feed in all affect the outcome. We do not guarantee that a tool will produce a particular file size, a particular quality level, or a result identical to another device.

Specific limits we would rather state than have you discover:

• Keep your originals. Every tool writes a new file rather than modifying your source, but you are responsible for your own backups. We cannot recover anything, because we never had it.
• Compression is lossy unless the format is lossless. Re-compressing an already compressed image degrades it further, and no setting undoes that.
• Upscaling cannot invent detail. Our upscaler interpolates. It does not reconstruct information that was never captured.
• Background removal is not magic. It works on plain, high-contrast backgrounds and struggles with busy ones and fine hair.
• Text extraction is imperfect. Optical character recognition is accurate on clean, straight text and degrades on handwriting, low contrast and heavy skew.
• Metadata removal covers what the format exposes. Re-encoding an image strips the usual EXIF payload, but if your obligation is legal rather than practical, verify the output yourself.

Where a tool has a limit, its own page says so. If you find a page that oversells what a tool does, that is a bug and we would like to hear about it.

Not professional advice

Nothing on this site is legal, privacy, compliance, security or professional advice. Our guides discuss things like image copyright, metadata and privacy because they matter in practice, but they are written by people who build image tools, not by lawyers. If a decision carries legal or financial weight, take advice from someone qualified in your jurisdiction.

Measured results

Where we publish numbers, they are real measurements from real files, and we say what we measured and how. They are examples, not promises. A different photograph at a different resolution will compress differently, and a benchmark run on our machine is not a prediction about yours. We link to outside resources such as browser documentation, standards bodies and platform help pages. Those sites are not under our control. We check a link works when we publish it, but we cannot guarantee its content later, and a link is not an endorsement. Once you leave this site, the other site's terms and privacy policy apply.

This site is funded by advertising served by third parties. We do not choose, write or vet individual ads, and their appearance here is not an endorsement or a recommendation. Any dealings you have with an advertiser are between you and them. How advertising works here is described in the privacy policy and the cookie policy.

Availability

We do not promise the site will always be reachable or error free. Because processing happens in your browser, a page you already have open will usually keep working even if the site becomes unreachable, but that is a convenient side effect rather than a guaranteed feature.

Your responsibility for content

You are responsible for the images you process and for having the right to modify and publish them. The tools are neutral: what you do with the output is your decision and your liability.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for loss or damage arising from use of this site or reliance on anything published here, including loss of data, loss of profit, or consequential loss.
